The PACE System™

Leadership does not break all at once. It drifts.

The PACE System™ helps you recognize that drift early, regain control, and build leadership that holds up under pressure.

The Problem

Most leaders are not underdeveloped. They are under strain.

You do not wake up one day and forget how to lead.

It is more subtle than that.

You start moving faster. You take on more. You tighten control. You think longer. You avoid something you should address.

Nothing feels dramatic. But over time, your leadership shifts.

Not because you lack ability. Because pressure changes how your strengths show up.

That is where most leadership development misses the mark. It tries to add more.

What most leaders actually need is awareness, control, and a way to train how they show up under pressure.

The Framework

PACE is how leadership shows up in real time

The PACE System™ is built around four core leadership behaviors.

Every leader has natural strengths in these areas. And every leader has patterns that show up under pressure.

PACE is not about changing who you are. It is about understanding how you operate, and training it with intention.

P

Pace

How you move

A

Authority

How you take ownership

C

Clarity

How you think and decide

E

Engagement

How you connect and communicate

Archetypes

Your leadership has a pattern

Most leaders naturally fall into one of four archetypes.

None of these are better than the others. But each one comes with a predictable strain pattern under pressure.

P

Proactive

Fast, action-oriented, momentum-driven

A

Analytical

Thoughtful, precise, clarity-driven

C

Collaborative

Relational, supportive, connection-focused

E

Executive

Decisive, accountable, outcome-focused

Strain

Your strength does not disappear under pressure. It distorts.

Under pressure, strengths tend to overextend.

This is not failure. It is pattern. And patterns can be trained.

The Solution

The goal is not to add more. It is to lead with more control.

The PACE System™ gives you a way to:

  • See your patterns clearly
  • Interrupt them earlier
  • Make better leadership trades in real time
  • Build consistency over time

This is not theory-heavy. It is practical, structured, and designed to be used while you are actually working.

Philosophy

This is not about becoming someone else

You do not need a new personality.

You do not need to pretend to lead a certain way.

You need awareness of your patterns, control over your behavior, and repetition that builds better habits.

That is what this system is built to do.

About the Coach

MJ Carroll

Behavioral Performance Coach · Author · Founder, The Keys Coaching and Consulting

Nearly 4 Decades in LeadershipCrossFIT L1 & L2 CertifiedNational Coaching CertificationAuthor

MJ Carroll has spent nearly four decades studying what makes people perform at their best, and what causes them to fall short of it. His path has not been a straight line. It has been a series of deep dives.

He started appraising residential real estate at 22, moved into management roles in banking, and eventually built and led multiple independent appraisal companies across California and Colorado. Along the way he earned national certifications in coaching and officiating, achieved Level 1 and Level 2 CrossFIT trainer credentials, helped manage some of the largest fitness competitions in the world, and discovered a talent for communication that took him from a high school stadium announcer booth to commercial acting and voice work.

The pattern across all of it is the same one he now teaches. He does not observe from a distance. He gets in, learns the system, earns the credential, and figures out what actually works under pressure.

That orientation is the foundation of the PACE x STRAIN framework. It is not built from theory. It is built from decades of watching real people, in real roles, under real pressure, and identifying the behavioral patterns that separate those who hold up from those who drift.

Today MJ works with executives and senior leaders who are ready to move beyond insight and build behavioral performance that holds. He writes, coaches, and leads teams in multiple fields, including ongoing legislative advocacy for the real estate appraisal industry. He and his wife of more than 25 years have four children and four grandchildren.

"You are here for the juice. So let's start squeezing."

Leadership is not fixed. It is trained.

You already have the raw material. PACE gives you a way to shape it.
